Florida Folk Artist Mario Sanchez

Mario Sanchez was born in Key West on October 7, 1908.  He was the grandson of a cigar-maker, and his father was a lecturer who read to the cigar workers throughout the day. He is a painter and a sculptor, but is best known for his paintings of street scenes in Key West.
