Dr. Julian Chambliss “The Comic Imaginary and the Florida Experience”
This year’s Shofner speaker, Dr. Chambliss, will explore how Florida’s comic publishing history shaped American comic culture,
revealing the state’s influence on visual storytelling, regional identity, and creative networks through the Comics as Data North
America project.
Dr. Chambliss is a historian, author, and professor at Michigan State University whose work explores popular culture, comics, race, and digital humanities. He is co-editor of the award-winning Comics as Data North America project and a leading scholar of comics history and cultural studies.
