JFK Visits Tampa and Miami

Date in History:

18 Nov 1963

President John F. Kennedy lands aboard Air Force One in South Florida. Later that day Kennedy was scheduled to take a motorcade trip through Miami and then give a speech before the Inter-American Press Association. Although Kennedy did deliver the speech, the motorcade was canceled after the Miami Police Department delivered an audio recording to the FBI and Secret Service in which a man, identified by the informant who made the recording as Joseph Adams Milteer, state that plans were “in the workings” to “shoot him [Kennedy] from an office building, with a high-powered rifle.” This was the last trip Kennedy made before traveling to Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963 where he was assassinated, shot from an office building with a high-powered rifle.
